Message from the Congress Chairman, Jim Bolger: Following our successful 2011 Congress in Brussels, Belgium, we are most grateful to His Excellency Kiran Kumar Reddy for inviting us to stage the 2013 Congress in Hyderabad, India. Hyderabad will provide an opportunity to examine the global needs which must be provided by agriculture in a new, challenging and different environment. The demands and responsibilities placed on agriculture increase – as a source of food, energy, clothing, raw materials and pharmaceuticals while all the while using less water and reducing its environmental impact. The growing prosperity of Asia increases these demands and augments the competition for scarce resources. However mankind has a huge capacity to invent, adapt and recover – if given the tools and allowed to use them. The 2013 WAF Congress calls together all segments of society from business to government, from NGO’s to academe and from finance to science to discuss, debate and determine the future of agriculture. There will be ample opportunity to view and meet Andhra Pradesh, Indian and global leaders in agriculture research and development, industry and government. The Congress will also be combined with an agriculture trade fair to allow plenty of opportunity for commercial exchange. Rt. Hon. James Bolger, Chairman of the WAF Advisory Board and Former Prime Minister of New Zealand |
